Eatline Terms of Service
DRAFT, review by a lawyer before publishing.
Last updated: [date]. These terms govern your use of the Eatline app, operated by [legal entity name, see docs/ops/entity-options.md].
What Eatline is
Eatline is a map and menu tool. It shows what to order at a restaurant for a goal you pick, with every number labelled Verified, Estimated, or Rough depending on where it came from. It is not a medical, dietary, or nutrition-counselling service. See docs/legal/health-disclaimer.md.
Accounts
You must be able to form a binding contract in your country to use Eatline (in practice, an adult, given the 17+ App Store rating). You are responsible for activity on your account and for keeping your device secure.
Subscription
Eatline offers a free tier (map, cuisine, hours, one best pick per place) and a paid subscription at $6.99 per week or $39.99 per year, with a 3-day free trial on either plan. Prices may vary by region per Apple's pricing tiers.
- Purchases go through Apple. Your subscription is billed by the App Store. Apple is the merchant of record. We never see or store your payment card details.
- Cancellation. Cancel any time in iOS Settings > [your name] > Subscriptions. Cancelling stops future renewals; it does not refund the current period.
- Refunds. Refunds are handled by Apple under its own policies, not by us. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.
- Trial. If you do not cancel before the trial ends, your paid plan starts automatically at the price shown at signup.
- Changes to price or plans. We will give notice consistent with Apple's requirements before any price change takes effect for existing subscribers.
- Restore purchases. A Restore button re-links your entitlement to your Apple ID if you reinstall or switch devices.
Acceptable use
You agree not to scrape, reverse-engineer, or bulk-extract the app's data or menu database; resell or redistribute our menu, score, or provenance data; use chat to extract system prompts, jailbreak the model, or generate content unrelated to the menu you're viewing; submit false data through "Snap the menu" or "Report a correction"; or break any restaurant's own terms when you follow an order link to their site.
No medical advice
Eatline gives general nutrition information based on published data, licensed databases, and model-assisted estimates. It is not medical advice, and it does not replace a doctor, dietitian, or your prescriber. GLP-1 portion guidance is not dosing guidance. See docs/legal/health-disclaimer.md for the exact language we use and the language we will never use.
Provenance disclaimer
Every number in Eatline carries a label:
- Verified: from a restaurant's own published nutrition data or a licensed database, matched to the exact item.
- Estimated: built from a reference database or a model's read of a menu, shown as a range with a confidence level.
- Rough: a first pass, not yet confirmed; never ranked first.
Menus, prices, and recipes change without notice and vary by location. We work to keep data current (see docs/legal/data-provenance-policy.md) but do not guarantee that any number matches what a restaurant serves you on a given day. Always check with the restaurant if you have an allergy or a medical condition where accuracy matters.
Ordering links
Links to a restaurant's own site or to a delivery platform take you outside the app. We do not control those sites, are not a party to your order, and are not responsible for their pricing, availability, or fulfilment.
Intellectual property
The app, its design, its scoring logic, and our own compiled menu database are owned by us or our licensors. Content sourced under an open licence (Overture, Foursquare Open Source Places, AllThePlaces, OpenStreetMap) remains subject to that licence; see docs/legal/third-party-licences.md.
Disclaimers and limitation of liability
The app is provided "as is" and "as available." To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and accuracy of nutrition data. Our total liability for any claim is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, excluding indirect, incidental, or consequential damages. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited under the law that applies to you, such as consumer guarantees under Australian Consumer Law or UK consumer protection law.
Termination
We can suspend or close an account that breaches these terms or misuses the service. You can delete your account at any time in Settings; see docs/ops/incident-and-data-request-runbook.md for what happens to your data after that.
Governing law
[To be set once the operating entity is formed, see docs/ops/entity-options.md. Placeholder: the laws of [jurisdiction], without regard to conflict-of-laws rules, except where local consumer law gives you rights that cannot be waived.]
Apple as a third-party beneficiary
These terms are between you and us, not Apple. Apple has no obligation to provide support for the app. Apple is a third-party beneficiary of these terms and can enforce them against you, consistent with Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement (Schedule 2).
Changes
We may update these terms. Material changes will be flagged in the app before they take effect.
